STATEMENTS FROM THE NOMINEES:
Quinn MATTHEWS: I’m a master’s student in Toronto currently working on applying nanomedicine to novel cancer therapies. Having been the previous NHN Events Director, I am once again looking to fill this role. I believe that everyone—from the most esteemed researcher to the greenest trainee—can benefit from being a part of a passionate, professional, and supportive network. Having served as events director in the past for my graduate department student society, I have experience in planning and carrying out a variety of events. I’m a hard worker, meticulous planner, and love seeing people enjoy and benefit from events that I have helped put together. Most importantly, I love facilitating conversations and friendships. As events director, I’d be thrilled to help plan out both professional events such as the NMIN Trainee Symposium, as well as casual friendship-building events like coffee hours. I’m often told by senior scientists that one of the most important (and fun) aspects of career building is having a broad network with whom you share meaningful ties. I wholeheartedly agree with this and would be honoured to be the person within the NHN who helps make this possible! Thank you.
Fariba SAADATI: I am pleased to be nominated to the position of Events Director on the NMIN HQP Network (NHN) Executive Committee. I have been working as a researcher and student since 2003 in a variety of positions. I began my career as an Associate Professor and Vice-Dean of Education in Iran, and continued my education as a Research Associate with Prof. Marco Ciufolini at the University of British Columbia. Through working with professors, students and research staff, I have gained practical experience in promoting communications, networking, and planning activities that will be an asset to the NHN. An Events Director must be able to think quickly, be creative, prioritize tasks in the face of many challenges, and support the NHN Executive Committee in planning and implementing Trainee Symposia. Through my past experience, I have gained the skills required to take on this role. As an experienced professional, I am eager to provide my skills and qualifications to the NHN as the Events Director. Thank you for your time and consideration.
